Four truck drivers held in captivity by unidentified gunmen in connection with monetary demand were rescued by a combined team of police led by SP Senapati and 14 Assam Rifles at around 10:45 am from near Koubru Leikha bridge under Sapermeina police station.
The drivers rescued from the gunmen are identified as Irom Ranjit (46) of Kameng Maisnam Leikai driving truck with registration no MN 01-623), Akoijam Rajesh (32) of Sagolband Tera Yengkhom Leirak ( truck no MN 04-7338), Sapam Surchandra (31) of Khongjom (truck no MN 04-747) and second driver Konthoujam Indrakumar (38) of Sekmaijin Khunou (truck no MN 04-6668).As SP Senapati Chandramani received information about the captives being led to the hills in time, the SP immediately informed 14 AR after which the combined team surrounded the suspected area.
Seeing the security personnel closing on them, the gun men left their captives and fled away, says a report.
