Imphal, August 16 2026:
Even as BJP leaders including National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh and BJP North East in-charge MP Sambit Patra are likely to visit the State shortly, speculation is rife that Manipur could see some significant political developments in the next month or so.
The two Central BJP leaders are most likely to come before the next Assembly session, which is likely to start from the first week of September.
Ministry expansion is likely to follow the visit of the two National leaders of the BJP, said the sources.
The Y Khemchand Singh led Government was sworn in on February 4 this year, after a stint of President's Rule.
Along with Khem-chand, four others took oath as members of the Council of Ministers including two Deputy Chief Ministers, Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP and Losii Dikho of the NPF.
The other two were K Govindas as Home Minister and Khuraijam Loken as Art and Culture and Tourism Minister.
Manipur has a strength of 12 Council of Ministers including the Chief Minister, but currently there are only five in the Ministry.
Incidentally, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata and MLA Kh Joykisan too left Imphal today.
Even though Govindas was heading for Mumbai, sources said that he may go to Delhi from Mumbai tomorrow and hold talks with Amit Shah on the State's law and order situation and other issues.
However, it could not be confirmed whether the Union Home Minister invited Govindas to Delhi or not.
When asked by media persons at Imphal Airport whether they were called by Central leaders, Govindas maintained that there wasn't any call or invitation from the Centre and added that he was going on a personal matter.
Ex-Chief Minister N Biren left Imphal for Delhi this afternoon following a call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Amit Shah and N Biren are likely to hold a meeting on Monday afternoon.
At Imphal Airport, the ex-Chief Minister did not say anything to a volley of queries raised by media persons except that he was going to Delhi.
It could not be established whether Speaker Th Satyabrata received any call from the Union Home Minister.
It is said that Satyabrata left Imphal for a trip to Bali, Indonesia.
MLA Kh Joykisan too left Imphal for Delhi today.
It could not be confirmed whether the departure of Govindas Konthoujam, Th Satyabrata and Kh Joykisan has anything to do with the proposed meeting between Amit Shah and N Biren.
