78th Independence Day celebrations held across State

Different districts of the State joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 78th Independence Day with nationalistic zeal yesterday.
Deputy Commissioners of respective districts hoisted the Tricolour with the National Anthem playing in the backdrop.
BISHNUPUR
The District Administration, Bishnupur celebrated the country's I-Day at Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur led by Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur Lourembam Bikram, IAS as the chief guest.
Hoisting of the National Flag was followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
He also inspected the parade and took salutes from 13 marching contingents commanded by Potshangbam Sanjoy Singh, MPS, DSP (CDO-I) Bishnupur.
As part of the celebration, appreciation certificates were distributed to 159 officials including DLOs.
Separately, the Manipur Art & Culture Department and INA Martyrs Memorial Complex Local Advisory Committee also jointly observed I-Day celebrations at INA Martyrs Memorial Complex at Moirang Kangla yesterday.
CHANDEL
The main event of yesterday's I-Day celebration was held at Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School ground, Japhou in Chandel.
M Rajkumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Chandel garced the event as the chief guest in the presence of administrative officers, Government officials, village heads, students and general public.
Showcasing of march past by 23 contingents, distribution of meritorious awards to 82 persons as well as red blankets to village chiefs were among the highlights of the celebration.
CHURACHANDPUR
A district-level program was held at Peace Ground, Tuibong to commemorate the 78th I-Day in the presence of Dharun Kumar S, Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur.
He hoisted the National Flag and took Rashtriya Salute from the parade contingents.
Meanwhile Thomas Haokip, SDPO Churachandpur commanded the 25 march past contingents.
Other highlights of the program include cultural items from different communities and bamboo dance from the Hmar Youth Association (HYA).
The chief guest also gave away appreciation certificates to 107 Government employees, Government institutions and individuals/NGOs in recognition of their outstanding and valuable services for public welfare.
Special certificates were also awarded to 10 schools which housed IDPs.
JIRIBAM
The day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Jiribam Higher Secondary School playground with Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam Krishna Kumar, IAS as the chief guest.
Altogether 4 contingents comprising 87th Bn CRPF, 7th Bn IRB, Jiribam District Civil Police and combined band of District Police and Fire Service participated in the parade commanded by T Inaobi Singh, MPS, SDPO Jiribam.
As a part of the celebration, various cultural items were showcased by the students of Jiri College.
Appreciation certificates were awarded to the best deserving 90 public servants and a special appreciation certificate was also awarded to All Jiribam Working Journalist Union (AJWJU) in recognition of their selfless service.
Five ex-servicemen from the district were honoured by the District Administration.
On the other hand, the Tricolour was also hoisted at the office of Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Sewa Kendra, Jiribam CD Block.
As a part of the celebration, a special issue of Manipur Today published by DIPR Manipur was also distributed to the gathering.
KAKCHING
District Administration Kakching held the 78 th I-Day celebrations at DC Office Complex, Kakching yesterday.
Rohit Anand, DC Kakching unfurled the tricolour and took salute from the parade contingents led by SDPO Kakching, AK Premjit, MPS as Parade Commander.
The event was attended by student contingents and cultural troupes from various Kakching schools.
Th Bikramjit, SP Kakching; Ch Binoy, Addl SP (Ops); A Romendro, Addl SP (L&O), M Kapajit ADM Kakching and other notable officials graced the celebration.
KAMJONG
At Kamjong, the main celebration was held at Kamjong Higher Secondary School playground with Rangnamei Rang Peter, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong as the chief guest.
A pledge on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was also taken.
This was followed by presentation of cultural pieces and distribution of commendation certificates to the best deserving public servants.
KANGPOKPI
Kangpokpi District Administration celebrated I-Day at Brigadier Thomas Ground yesterday where DC Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS took salute of 24 marching contingent from Police, VDF, NCC and several Government and private schools in the district.
Later, appreciation certificates were given to 72 Government employees followed by cultural performances from Lamhil AK Kuki Cultural Research Centre, Maohing Cultural Troupe, Nepali Gorkha Dance Troupe and Maohing Cultural Troupe.
NONEY
As held in different parts of the country, Noney District Administration also celebrated Independence Day on Thursday amid tight security at the DC's Office Complex, Longmai, Noney.
DC Noney Sharath Chandra Arroju unfurled the Tricolour.
He also made an inspection of the march past contingents.
The programme was attended by SP Noney Namsadai Peter, ADC Stiff Khapudang, Dr Joyshree, SDOs, SDCs, DLOs, other related officials, DC office staff, elders, students and locals.
PHERZAWL
The 78th I-Day celebration was held yesterday at Pherzawl District Headquarters.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Asish Das paid tribute to the great freedom fighters and emphasized on the importance of taking pride in the country's rich cultural heritage.
During the function, appreciation certificates were distributed to 21 outstanding Government employees and 2 civilians.
Additionally, 2 CSOs and 5 Village Authorities were also recognized for their efforts in eliminating poppy cultivation and making the district poppy-free.
Distribution of relief materials to 44 households affected by the recent heavy hailstorm and educational kits to schools also marked the celebration.
SENAPATI
District Administration, Senapati celebrated the 78th I-Day of India at Sanyi Dahrii Complex, Khabung Karong, yesterday.
Senapati DC Mamoni Doley, IAS spoke about the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, women's safety, aid extended to people affected by heavy rain and hailstones and the ongoing Maram-Peren NH 129A and Ukhrul-Tolloi-Tadubi NH-102 projects.
158 commendation certificates were handed out to police personnels, Government officials and various organisations for their outstanding co-operation to the District Administration, Senapati.
I-Day issue of 'Manipur free-Today' magazine published by DIPR was also distributed to the attendees.
TENGNOUPAL
District Administration, Tengnoupal celebrated the day at the District HQ.
As the chief guest, DC Krishna Kumar, IAS spoke about the challenges in implementation of developmental schemes due to the district's remote location and difficult terrain.
District Police, 49 Bn BSF (M&C XIII Bn BSF), Phalbung Youth Club Cultural Troupe, St Peters School, Tengnoupal Cultural Troupe, Phunal Sambum, Maring War Dance Troupe participated in the Independence Day celebration.
Sports materials were also distributed to relief camps at Loisi, Chahmol, Tengnoupal Govt H/S, Bongbal, Moreh Hr Sec School, District Sports Association, Tengnoupal and St Peters School.
THOUBAL
At Thoubal, the main function of the day was held at the Mini Secretariat Complex, Thoubal.
On the occasion, A Subhash Singh, DC, Thoubal highlighted the achievements and contributions of various departments in Thoubal.
He spoke about the education sector, health sector, initiative taken up by the ULB Waste Disposal Plant and various schemes undertaken by the Government.
The programme was attended by SP Thoubal Rakesh Balwan, ADM B Lokeshor Sharma, SDOs, SDCs, DLOs, officials and staff of DC Office Thoubal.
UKHRUL
The I-Day celebration in Ukhrul district was held at Bakshi Ground Hungpung with the attendance of thousands of people.
DC Kengoo Zuringla took the general salute and inspected the parade contingents in the presence of all DLOs, social organization leaders and the public.
Altogether 24 contingents including ex-servicemen, Manipur Rifles, Manipur Police, NCC and students from both Government and private schools participated in the march past.
Subsequently, the DC also handed over appreciation certificates to 115 employees from different departments in recognition of their exemplary services.
Cultural items, patriotic songs, folk songs and martial art performances were showcased during the celebration.
INDIAN ARMY
The Indian Army celebrated I-Day through a number of events held at Leimakhong, Imphal East, Senapati, Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts.
Medical camps were held at Moirang Relief Camp and Yaingangpokpi Orphanage.
I-Day celebration was also held at Goodwill School, Leimakhong KV and Army Pre-Primary School among others.
