World Diabetes Day observed

Joining the rest of the world, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal today observed World Diabetes Day 2025 at the New General OPD Block, RIMS, Imphal.
As per a release issued by RIMS, this year's observance, themed "Diabetes and the Workplace", aimed to raise awareness about the rising burden of diabetes and its impact on working populations.
The programme commenced with a ribboncutting ceremony officiated by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal, marking the inauguration of the day's activities.
In his address, Prof G Sunil Kumar emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance diabetes-related health awareness by educating the public on the different types of diabetes, strategies to prevent its rising prevalence, and the critical importance of early detection and lifestyle modification.
He also highlighted that diabetes has become a significant health burden, affecting not only the medical sector but also society and the economy at large, with approximately 11% of the global population currently impacted.
As part of the event, free healthcare services were offered, including medical consultations, diabetes screening, and diagnostic tests such as KFT, LFT, Lipid Profile, and HbA1C.IEC materials like diet charts were distributed to enhance public understanding.
The programme also included interactive counselling sessions on diabetes management and healthy lifestyle practices.
A total of 156 patients attended and benefitted from the services.
The programme was attended by the Principal of the Dental College, RIMS, Imphal, Dean (Academics), HoDs, faculty members, staff and students of RIMS, Imphal.
Moreover, District Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Cell, District Health Mission Imphal East today observed World Diabetes Day at the CMO Imphal East District Office Complex under the theme, "Diabetes and Well-being, with appropriate access to diabetes care and support for their well-being, and Diabetes and Workplace".
As part of the event, free screening services of RBS, BP, ECG and Diabetes were offered to the public.
Likewise, Senior Citizens' Society also observed World Diabetes Day today by organising a free medical camp at Ram School, Pangei Bazar.
During the camp, a medical team provided free health consultation and various services including free screening of blood pressure (BP), blood sugar and blood cholesterol.
Dr Kshetrimayum Kala Singh, general secretary of Senior Citizens' Society also administered a pledge (related to diabetes) to the participants.
Notably, the event was sponsored by Glenmark CV.
Similarly, Leiam Chanura Nawa Tengbang Lup also observed World Diabetes Day today at its office premises in Singjamei Chingamathak Chongtham Leikai.
