Rongmei Naga village presents cultural dance to PM Modi at Churachandpur

CCpur, September 14 2025: The villagers of Zeihkuluang Tokpa Kabui and the Rongmei community of the Loktak Project area in Churachandpur district accorded a grand cultural welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Peace Ground, Churachandpur, on Saturday.

According to a release issued by the Tokpa Kabui Village Authority, the occasion was marked by the traditional Rongmei Pazeimei dance, proudly showcasing the community's rich cultural heritage.

Founded around 1500 AD, the village is one of the oldest villages in the district, and holds a prominent place in the region's history.

SK Gaipuibi, chief and chairman of Tokpa Kabui village, highlighted the significance of the inauguration of the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Zeihkhuluang Tokpa, describing it as a milestone in the development journey of the Loktak project area.

He expressed gratitude to the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, and the Department of Tribal Affairs & Hills for the initiative, which is expected to transform education and empower local youth.

The village authority stated that the Rongmei community, along with other minority groups in the Loktak Project areas, has long faced political and economic neglect, with limited access to opportunities and development.

The villagers further appealed for their voices and concerns to be heard and for minority communities to be given due consideration in future policies and programs, ensuring inclusive and equitable growth for all.
