In line with its assurance to hand over maintenance of certain portion of NH 39 to BRTF or a private company, the State Government has made necessary process to hand over the highway maintenance work to 25 BRTF stationed at Imphal.
The State Government made the assurance in the wake of the weeks long NH 39 blockade imposed by the Senapati District Students' Association last month against pathetic condition of the highway.
The 25 BRTF will be taking over maintenance of the 70 kms long Imphal-Maram section of NH 39 from next year.
Currently, the same section is under care of the State Public Works Department.
Talking to media persons, 25 BRTF Commandant BP Mishra informed that the Centre has also instructed them to take over maintenance work of this section of NH 39 .
He said that 25 BRTF shall begin repairing/improvement work of the highway from January next year.
Plans have been already finalised during a series of meetings held between PWD Chief Engineer and BRTF officials recently to hand over maintenance work of the highway section to the BRTF unit from next year.
The Works Department also assured the BRTF to complete all its ongoing contract works in this section within the current month, conveyed BP Mishra.
He said that necessary machinery will be installed and manpower deployed so as to ensure that the highway development work begins without any undue delay.
Informing that construction of a highway stretch in Tamenglong district is almost complete, BP Mishra said that all the machinery and labourers will be shifted to NH 39 soon.
Currently, 25 BRTF is also in charge of maintaining a lengthy route in Myanmar.
