Seminar on 'Assam & Manipur Retentions' begins

A 3-Day International Seminar on "Assam and Manipur Relations: History, Culture and Development" began today at the Court Hall, Manipur University (MU), Imphal.
The seminar was organised by the College Development Council, MU in collaboration with the Intellectual Forum of North East and the Department of Ancient History & Archaeology, MU.
The seminar was sponsored by North Eastern Council, Ministry of Development of North East Region, Government of India.
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Prof Naorem Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor, MU; Prof Soibam Jibonkumar Singh, Dean, School of Human & Environmental Science, MU; Prof Memcha Loitongbam, Dean, School of Social Sciences, MU; and Kh Rajen Singh, RSS, Assam Kshetra Karyawah.
In the event, speakers shared that the relationship between Assam and Manipur represents one of the most enduring and multifaceted inter-state connections in Northeast Indian history.
They asserted that unlike relationships characterized primarily by conflict & territorial disputes, the Assam-Manipur connection has been distinguished by cooperation, mutual assistance and cultural exchange.
The first day of the International Seminar also featured a technical session on the topic "Royal Linkages, and Matrimonial Alliance", with Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, former Minister of State of External Affairs & Education; Prof Chirom Rajkentan Singh, Department of Manipuri, MU; and Nando Tekcham, president, Athoubasing Gee Liklam Thiba Lup, Manipur as panellist.
