Extortionist thrashed at Sagolband

Imphal, October 13 2008: An activist of the armed group KLA who reportedly came to the Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak residence of Dr Akoijam Ongbi Ibeyaima Devi who works in the Gynae Department of RIMS to demand money was rounded up and given a good thrashing by the local people at around 7 am today.

According to report, on October 2, a demand note of Rs 2 lakhs signed by finance secretary of KLA Ngambom Kuki had been left at the residence of Dr Ibeyaima giving October 6 as the deadline for meeting the demand.

After the deadline, on October 7, one KLA cadre came to the house to collect the money but the money was not given.

The same KLA cadre has been loitering around the area for the last couple of days and was rounded up by the local people today as he was coming to collect the money.

While the infuriated locals were giving good thrashing of the rounded up KLA cadre, personnel of 3rd IRB arrived and took him into custody.

The IRB personnel have reportedly recovered one 9 mm pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition from the possession of the KLA cadre identified as Chabungbam Bishobanta alias Momo (28) s/o Ch Kumar of Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai.
