Selfless spirit of nurses highlighted on International Day of Nurses

As observed across the globe, the International Day of Nurses 2026 was celebrated in Manipur to mark the contributions of nurses on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
Trained Nurses Association (TNA), Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Unit observed International Nurses Day at the auditorium of JNIMS Hospital, Porompat under the theme "Our Nurses.
Our Future.
Empowered Nurses Save Lives" .

The ceremony was graced by Shamim Ahmad Shah, CEO, State Health Agency and Joint Secretary, Health and Family Welfare as the chief guest; Mutum Jibanlata Devi, Nursing Superintendent, JNIMS as the functional president and Professor Kh Lokeshwar Singh, Medical Superintendent, JNIMS; Ksh Siddharth, MCS, DDA, JNIMS; G Bosco Singamlung, DDF, JNIMS and Kh Kunjarani Devi, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, JNIMS as the guest of honour.
As a part of the event, doctors and nurses paid floral tributes before the portrait of Florence Nightingale.
Awards were also handed over to retired nurses in recognition of their selfless service.
Speaking at the event, Shamim Ahmad Shah noted the contributions of nurses, maintaining that nurses' service to humanity is akin to working in the service of God.
Meanwhile, Mutum Jibanlata highlighted the shortage of equipment at the hospital, which makes the work of nurses more difficult.
She also shone a light on the shortage of nursing staff, adding that lack of manpower translates to challenges in providing care to patients.
Stating that appeals have been repeatedly made to plug the shortage of nurses, she said they are awaiting the recruitment of more nurses.
The OPD Nursing Sisters of JNIMS Hospital also observed the day at the OPD Block of the hospital.
Snacks were distributed to OPD patients on the occasion.
In commemoration of International Nurses Day, Male Nurses, JNIMS organised the 6th voluntary blood donation camp at JNIMS Blood Centre today.
40 JNIMS nurses donated their blood at the camp.
In this connection, MS Professor Kh Lokeshwar Singh said though blood alone may not be enough to save a person's life, the blood donation camp was conducted to meet the immediate blood shortage faced by patients.
Highlighting the selfless spirit of the nurses, he made a public appeal to the people of Manipur to donate blood whenever possible.
In another event, Babina Hospital, Babina Speciality Hospital, American Oncology Institute and Babina Institute of Nursing jointly organised the celebration of International Nurses Day 2026.The ceremony was held at Babina Multipurpose Hall, Sajiwa Jail Road, Khabeisoi under the theme of "Our Nurses.

Notable dignitaries present include T Shantikumar, Controller of Examinations, Manipur University as the chief guest; Dr Thangjam Dhabali, CMD, Babina Group of Companies as the functional president; Dr Jubilee Wahengbam, Joint Director, Directorate of Health Services as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, T Shantikumar shared that there are 19 nursing institutes in the State under Manipur University where more than 500 nursing students are enrolled.
Saying that the nursing profession is held in high regard all across the world, he paid homage to the caregivers on the occasion of International Nurses Day.
Meanwhile, the Babina Group CMD noted the spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by nurses and commended their contributions.
During the event, gifts were presented to the healthcare workers under Babina Group.
Separately, the Chingtam Home Health Care Services also observed International Nurses Day at Ereima Eco Garden in Hiyangthang today along with its 2nd foundation day.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kshetrimayum Kala described nurses as the backbone of the healthcare system.
Stating that hospitals cannot operate without nurses, he reminded them to be aware of their valuable contribution.
The event was also attended by Leichombam Ranjana Chanu, Proprietor, Chingtam Home Healthcare Services and Dr Lenin Okram.
The gathering offered a floral tribute before the photo of Florence Nightingale.
Simple gifts were also presented to the staff of Chingtam Home Healthcare Services.
