Farmers' training programme concludes

A week-long farmers' training programme on "Popularization of soybean for food, nutritional and livelihood security for soybean farmers of Manipur" concluded at College of Agriculture (CoA), Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal on September 9, 2024.The training programme was organised by All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Soybean, CoA, CAU, Imphal under NEH programme.
More than 40 trainees, mostly women SHGs covering different villages of Manipur attended the programme which was sponsored by ICAR-IISR, Indore.
Displaced persons from the conflict-hit villages were also trained under the programme.
During the week-long programme, Dr L Sophia Devi, Food Scientist, CoA, CAU, Imphal, gave demonstration cum hands on training with technological insights to the participants.
Preparation of various value added food products of soybean such as cakes and confectionery, fermented soy products, tofu, sweets, pickles, etc were also demonstrated.
Farmers expressed then-enthusiasm to cultivate soybean in the upcoming seasons and start new enterprises of soy value addition.
Notably, scientists associated with seed improvement, production and protection of soybean in Manipur under the NEH programme are Dr H Nanita Devi, Plant Breeder; Dr T Sunanda Devi, Agronomist and Dr Nilima Karam, Entomologist.
They are rendering major research for area expansion of soybean in the State.
