Imphal, March 11, 2010: As a part of the ongoing commemoration celebrations of the Assam Rifles' 175th year in existence, the 42 AR under the aegis of HQs IGAR (S) and HQs 26 Sector AR organised an exhibition football match at Maha Union School gro-und, Chandel today.

A statement of the AR unit said the match was hosted not only to highlight 175 years of co-existence and deep association with the locals, but also to stre-ngthen the resolve of being 'friends of the hill peoples'.

Amid large gathering of villagers, village heads, Government officials and representatives of sports bodies and NGOs, Deputy Inspector General of 26 Sector SK Bhanot called upon the people to come forward to support the good cause besides conveying his commitment to empower the youth.

While the DIG thanked the people for all the cooperation and support pro- vided to the Assam Rifles in Chandel, the gathering applauded the AR initiative of coaching the local football team providing the players playing kits/accessories, the statement maintained.

Apart from distribution of prizes and refreshment served to all present, band display, cultural programme by members of the local youth club and performances by Manipuri singers as well as Chandel Idol AK Anal enthralled the gathering, it added.

Tour for farmers:As part of the drive to bridge the gap between North Eas-tern States with the rest of India, 5 Assam Rifles of 57 Mountain Artillery Brigade under the aegis of 57 Mountain Division has underta- ken an educational cum recreational tour for farmers of Jiribam sub-division of Imphal East to Dr YS Parmar Agricultural University, Solan in Himachal Pradesh from March 5 to 19. In all 20 civilian farmers from various communities and villages of Jiribam sub-division have been selected to participate in the tour which is expected to familiarise the farmers with the cultural, social and technological strides made by the country since independence and also to make them aware about the new techniques of agriculture.

During the visit, lectures will be taken on introduction to new technologies and advancement in the field of agriculture combin-ed with field demonstration of the same.

The farmers will also visit various historical monuments in Delhi while on their way back to Delhi.

This type of tour would not only motivate the village farmers to learn and implement various new methods of farming but would also increase the interaction between the Army and civil populace and thus establish a strong civil military bonds with the locals.
