Moirang, November 10 2025:
The Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup (BAAL) has urged the Governor of Manipur to upgrade the 50-bedded Bishnupur District Hospital to a 200-bedded facility, citing the increasing number of patients and the hospital's vital role in providing healthcare services not only to the people of Bishnupur district but also to neighbouring areas.
During an inspection visit to the hospital, BAAL president Loitongbam Debachand highlighted that the existing infrastructure of the hospital is insufficient to meet the rising healthcare demands and lacks several facilities.
He noted that the hospital not only served as vital for people of Bishnupur in providing healthcare services, but also caters to patients from nearby districts such as Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Kangpokpi, and Noney, resulting in heavy patient load and overcrowding.
He pointed out that the shortage of wards and facilities often compels many emergency and maternity patients to wait on the floor for vacant beds.
Debachand further mentioned that the hospital's limited resources cause hardships to patients, particularly those suffering from kidney-related ailments who are waiting for dialysis and other critical treatments.
He also expressed disappointment that despite assurances from Bishnupur AC MLA Govindas Konthoujam, the hospital's upgradation proposal has been delayed for years.
He mentioned that although the recommendation process has been submitted to the Finance Department, no concrete action has yet been taken and remains stuck.
BAAL appealed to the State authorities to expedite the process of upgrading the hospital to a 200-bedded facility, emphasizing that improved infrastructure would greatly benefit the people of Bishnupur and neighbouring districts.
Later the BAAL team, led by its president Loitongbam Debachand and secretary T Bikram, along with members of the Women's Wing and other representatives, submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, through the Deputycommissioner of Bishnupur, urging immediate action on the matter.
