'Slandering Prof Bimol will only backfire'

Imphal, October 10 2026: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has categorically stated that attempts to slander Lok Sabha Member Prof Akoijam Bimol will only backfire.

Speaking to media persons today, MPCC general secretary Ningthoujam Popilal said that BJP will have no nowhere to hide if the BJP MLAs and Ministers tainted for extramarital affairs and misbehaving with women are named.

Popilal vehemently condemned the march to Congress Bhavan today which was flagged off by BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda from Thambal Shanglen.

Earlier today, BJP Mahila Morcha members and workers marched to the Congress Bhavan and shouted slogans demanding the resignation of Prof Bimol Akoijam from being a member of the Lok Sabha.

Popilal said that most participants of today's rally were threatened by BJP that they will not get the promised financial aid of Rs 10,000 if they did not join the rally.

They joined the rally not because they liked BJP but they needed the money promised by the BJP Government, he said.

Even though BJP has been making all attempts to slander Prof Bimol Akoijam and assassinate his character, the people of Manipur have been solidly standing behind Prof Bimol, he said.

The MPCC general secretary said that the sexual assault charges made against Prof Bimol is an attempt to divert public attention from the protracted violence besieging Manipur.

If the BJP MLAs and Ministers who have been tainted for extramarital affairs, forced and impromptu betrothal, caught with women from hotels are named, they will have nowhere to hide, he said.
