3-day training programme on 'Bamboo & Cane Crafts' lacks off in Chandel

Chandel, September 10 2025:
A three-day training programme on "Bamboo & Cane Crafts" commenced today at Lambung Community Hall, Chandel, under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme.
Organised by the Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel, the inaugural function of the training programme was attended by DFO Chandel, Dr N Munal Meitei as chief guest; General Manager of DIC Chandel, Th Bijoy Singh; Chief of Lambung Village, LH Noah as functional president; and Maha Area Naga Chiefs Association, president TS Thoring Anal as guests of honour, along with DL Indu Maring, chief trainer.
Speaking at the event, Dr N Munal Meitei emphasised that if the training is imparted effectively, bamboo and cane products can be promoted not only locally but also in markets across the world.
He noted that in rural, particularly hill areas, bamboo and cane remain the highest employment-generating unorganised sector.
He stated that the training will not only focus on traditional crafts but also on producing high-demand small products such as making pen, pen-stand, baskets, hand fans, wall posters.
Dr Munal added that the 45 trainees undergoing the three-day training programme will also be eligible to register under MSME, UDYAM, enabling them to become self-sustainable entrepreneurs.
Highlighting the ecological benefits, Dr Munal stated that plantation of bamboo and cane abundantly in the hill areas, which consists 90% of State area, can help restore the forests which are degraded by the Jhum while also making Manipur's products competitive globally.
He concluded that such initiatives are vital for both livelihood generation and environmental restoration, paving the way for a developed Manipur.
