Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan launched in Tamenglong

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) for the year 2024-25 was officially launched in Tamenglong district today by Deputy Commissioner, Dr L Angshim Dangshawa at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner Office Complex, Mini Secretariat, Tamenglong.
The event was organised by the District Administration in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office, Tamenglong.
The launch was attended by several dignitaries, including Additional District Magistrate, Chunglemang Kipgen (MCS), Tamenglong Sub-Divisional Officer, D Meidinbui (MCS), Chief Medical Officer, Dr G Majachunglu, Additional Superintendent of Police Josiah Pamei (MPS), and other District Level Officers (DLOs).
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt of India, aims to combat drug abuse through three primary objectives - curbing the supply of drugs, raising awareness, and reducing demand.
Speaking at the gathering, Dr Angshim emphasized the importance of public cooperation and participation in the campaign, stating that civil societies play a crucial role in curbing the supply of drugs.
Highlighting the pressing issue of drug abuse in the district, Dr Angshim noted a significant increase in drug users following the recent clashes between communities in Manipur.
He stressed the urgent need to address this growing concern.
The NMBA campaign will run until March 24, 2024, featuring various activities including a marathon race, verification of potential poppy plantations within the district, and the establishment of a "No Tobacco Zone" around 100 metres of school premises.
Additionally, there will be initiatives to check the installation of CCTV cameras at pharmacies and conduct outreach camps to raise awareness about drug abuse.
As part of the launch event, a pledge was taken by the DLOs, led by the chief guest Dr Angshim.
DLOs also participated in a signature campaign to demonstrate their commitment to the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
The district administration is optimistic that this comprehensive campaign will foster a drug-free environment in Tamenglong and encourage community involvement in addressing the issue of substance abuse.
