Union Minister assures support to pony preservation

Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh has reportedly assured Central Government's support toward protecting and preserving Manipuri Pony.
The Union Minister gave the assurance in a written reply to ex-Rajya Sabha Member Leishemba Sanajaoba.
Then Rajya Sabha Member Leishemba Sanajaoba raised a motion as a special mention during a Parliament session on March 17 this year seeking support from the Central Government toward protecting and preserving the Manipuri Pony.
Replying to the motion, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh sent a written reply recently assuring necessary support from the Central Government.
The Union Minister's reply mentioned that Rs 29.99 lakh was given to owners of 86 ponies in 2025-26 toward purchasing feed and taking care of health problems.
Surveys have been carried out to identify most suitable grazing grounds for ponies in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching districts.
Together with pony owners, polo clubs and other stakeholders, the State Government has been holding awareness programmes on common pony diseases and their preventive measures.
