Under the theme of 'Science and Technology for Global Sensibility', the Education Department (School) of the Government of Manipur in association with NCERT, New Delhi would be organising the State Level Science Exhibition for Children, 2008 from November 12 to 14 at Bengali High School, Imphal.
Education Minister L Jayantakumar Singh and Commissioner (School Education) Sambhu Singh would inaugurate the exhibition on November 12 as chief guest and president respectively.
The exhibits and models of around 80 students selected from the district and zonal level competition would be displayed in the exhibition.
From among the exhibits, 20 students would be again selected for participation in the Eastern India Science Fair, 2009 to be held at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata.
Oral quiz competition, work experience camp, educational tour, etc would also be organised during the course of the exhibition.
As part of the programme, a seminar on the subject of 'Global warming' would also be conducted on November 11 .
To be presided over by former Vice Chancellor of Manipur University IS Khaidem, Dr SB Attari; Commissioner Education Sambhu Singh; Dr RK Chingkhei, a Research Associate in Department of Earth Sciences, Manipur University would respectively present papers during the seminar on the topics of 'The role of green house gases in global warming', 'Introduction to climate change' and 'Climate change as seen from data recorded in Manipur'.
Apart from students selected from district and zonal level competitions, students of class XI studying higher secondary schools may also participate in the seminar.
Along with organising a written quiz competition for the participants of the seminar on November 12 at 10 am, 40 students would also be selected for participating in a science studying programme at Bose Institute, Kolkata.
