'YAS will be streamlined'

Imphal, August 08 2026: Steps will be taken up to "rectify and clean" the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, said YAS and Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam today.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of the 3rd Manipur Yogasana Championship 2026 at Wahengbam Leikai Multipurpose Hall when he made the statement.

The functioning of the YAS Department will be streamlined.

The department will be cleaned and all the wrongs will be corrected and rectified, Govindas said, emphasising the importance of the department in shaping future sportsmen and women, he said.

Notably, this statement of the Minister came amid YAS employees staging protests against appointment of an MCS officer as the Joint Director of the department.

At the launch of the Yogasana championship, Govindas encouraged people, especially youths, to learn Yoga and stay healthy.

All Manipur Yoga Culture Federation vice president and Manipur Yoga Society president, Dr Basudev and several officials of the Government and YAS Department attended the event.
