Imphal, October 06 2026:
A large number of locals of Wangoi Constituency attempted to storm the residence of Art and Culture and Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken today, denouncing Government failure to address manpower shortage at the Community Health Centre, Wangoi.
The protesters, including representatives and members of clubs in Wangoi and Meira Paibis, took out a march from Wangoi Makha Leikai community hall.
Holding placards seeking adequate doctors, technical staff and enhanced infrastructure, the protesters attempted to storm the residence of the Minister who is also the local MLA .
After the police thwarted the attempt, the protesters congregated and held a meeting at Wangoi Keithel.
At the public meeting, Young Development Union Club (YUDC) president Longjam Achouba, representing the public, said that the Community Health Centre which has bagged State and National awards for cleanliness has only three doctors at present.
While the CHC Wangoi should have 16 doctors, it has only three doctors, including the Medical Officer-in-charge.
The hospital also has no adequate number of technical staff and required infrastructure, he said.
The shortage of manpower and infrastructure has nearly crippled healthcare service, causing inconveniences to the public, he added.
The locals had earlier held talks with the authorities concerned and submitted a memorandum urging the Health Director to send adequate staff including doctors and technical staff to the CHC by September 30, he said.
However, despite repeated appeals made, the authorities concerned have not yet sent the required doctors and other staff, he said.
For the welfare of the locals, the Government and the Directorate of Health should take up immediate steps to address the manpower shortage, he said.
The CHC should also have enhanced infrastructure and provide 24x7 Ultrasound service facility, he added.
Failing to address the demands may force the locals, clubs and organisations including the Meira Paibis to intensify agitation, he said.
