MIC observes RTI Week

The Manipur Information Commission observed the Right To Information Week at the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal today.
Principal Secretary (AR/Transport) RK Dinesh Singh, State Chief Information Commissioner Koijam Radhashyam Singh and State Information Commissioner Nungshitombi Athokpam and several officials of the Government attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Dinesh Singh stressed the need for promoting awareness on the Right to Information Act, 2005 to strengthen and ensure transparency, accountability and citizen participation in governance.
He noted that October 12 will mark the 21st anniversary of the implementation of the Right to Information Act, 2005 .
The RTI Act which came into force on October 12, 2005 .
He stated that the RTI enables people to access information, ensuring transparency and accountability.
It helps curb corruption and, ultimately strengthens democracy.
State Chief Information Commissioner Koijam Radhashyam Singh described the RTI Act as one of the most important legislations which empowers citizens, and noted that it is also referred to as a 'sunshine legislation' .
India is a democratic republic and therefore, the participation of citizens in governance is essential.
The RTI Act was enacted to give greater meaning to the principle of democracy, he said.
He stressed that greater openness, transparency and accountability in Government functioning would help reduce corruption, mismanagement and misuse of public resources and give greater meaning to democracy.
The Right To Information (RTI) Week will conclude on October 12, 2026 .
