Lions Mental Health & Well-Being Week begins

Lions Clubs under Zone-IX, Region-V of District 322D, in association with Nirvana Foundation, Imphal started the observance of "Lions Mental Health and Well-Being Week" with an awareness lecture on mental health, delivered by Dr S Manikanta Singh, Senior Psychiatrist on October 4,2025 at its Service Centre in Sangaiprou.
As per a release issued by Lions Club of Imphal, the Mental Health Week is an initiative of Lions International president AP Singh and is to be observed from October 4 to 12, 2025 by Lions Clubs across the globe.
In his lecture, Dr Manikanta said that understanding mental health has become very important in the present time in view of the changed lifestyle and socio-political environment.
"In the past, the main cause of mortality was due to communicable diseases.
But now, the main cause has become non-communicable diseases and the main reason for this change is mental disorder", he added.
He pointed out that after the Covid pandemic, it is estimated that the case of depression has increased almost three fold.
"Mental disorders like depression directly affect the reduction of quality work and physical well-being", he added.
He stated that in order to bring about a healthy life, one should ensure good social health which can be achieved through proper mental health.
"To achieve good mental health, we need to regulate emotion through various ways like yoga, meditation, relaxation, exercise, etc.
The community should also have empathy towards those persons with mental illness and avoid stigmatization", he asserted.
The programme was attended by H Manikumar Singh, past district governor; Dr N Romi, district GMT coordinator; Y Manglem Singh, region chairperson, Region-V; Dr P Brajamani Singh, DC Mental Health; members of Lions Club of Imphal, Lions Club of Imphal Valley, Lions Club of Imphal North and Nirvana Foundation.
