Manipur will not lose any land in the border fencing at the international boundary with Myanmar, said Union Home Secretary, GK Pillai when questioned by reporters during his visit at Ukhrul district HQs today.
He assured that action would be taken up against those underground groups under suspension of operation (SoO) pacts with the government if they violated the ground rules of the agreements and indulge in extortions, kidnappings and other activities.
Home Secretary GK Pillai arrived today on a brief eight hours visit and reviewed the action taken report (ATR) of development seminars held in four districts of the state during 2009 and 2010 .
He reviewed the ATR of the seminars held in Bishnupur, on August 20, 2009 and Senapati on August 21, 2009 and Imphal East and Ukhrul on 18 and 19 October, 2010 apart from inspecting work progress of various projects at Ukhrul district HQs and the hovercraft station at Toubul in Bishnupur district.
While reviewing the recommendations of the seminar, Manipur Chief Secretary, DS Poonia sought the intervention of the Home Secretary to ensure early sanctions of projects which the state government had proposed to the MHA and the DoNER.
The Chief Secretary firmly asked the Home Secretary for sanction/retention, at the earliest, of NLCPR projects�Water Supply for Kasom Khullen, Litan, Sanakeithel in Ukhrul district pending with DoNER, solar lighting and solar plants pending with MNRE and to double lane the Ukhrul-Yainangpokpi-Jesami stretch of NH 150, pending with Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) and alignment of Ukhrul-Tolloi-Tadubi road via Huining pending with MORTH.
Relaxation of guidelines of the RD & NRRDA and enhancement of allocation of SGSY and upgradation of more roads under PMGSY were other subjects tabled before the visiting Home Secretary, an official source said.
Earlier, as soon as he arrived at Imphal Airport, he flew in a helicopter to Ukhrul district HQ with state Chief Secretary, DS Poonia to attend the second edition of Tribals' Cultural Exchange Programme, hosted by All Tribal students Union Manipur.
Addressing the gathering in the event, Pillai encouraged the youth to maintain a reading habit saying that a better place to live in can be created only through education and literacy.
He observed that in many metropolitan cities like Delhi and Bangalore he found many young Manipuris working in big private companies for a living and that they had balanced modernity with preservation of culture and identity.
Chief Secretary, DS Poonia, Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner N Ashok Kumar, president of United Naga Council Manipur, Samson Remei and President, Kuki Inpi Manipur, Thangkhosei Haokip also attended the cultural exchange program.
Pillai concluded his eight hour visit after inspecting the hovercraft station at Toubul of Loktak lake.
