Watershed Yatra outreach campaign launched in Kakching

Kakching, February 05 2025: The nationwide Watershed Yatra Outreach Campaign, a part of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana - Watershed Development Component 2.0 (WDC-PMKSY 2.0) was also launched today at the DC Office Complex, Kakching District organised by the State Level Nodal Agency (SLNA), Manipur (Watershed Management).

The campaign was virtually inaugurated by the Union Minister of Rural Development, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan through video conferencing.

"Watershed Yatra", objective is to generate people's participation and create awareness about the Watershed Development activities carried out under the Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (WDC-PMKSY 2.0) in project areas.

The major activities to be carried out during the Watershed Yatra include Watershed Mahotsav, Shramdaan, Paani Ka Paathshala and Tree Plantations.

The inauguration programme was attended by Rohit Anand, IAS, Kakching district, N Kulkarani Devi, Director, Planning Department, Govt of Manipur and CEO, SLNA (WM) along with Kherdananda Potshangbam, SDO Kakching.

Speaking at the event, Rohit Anand stated that the initiative was launched to help local farmers to become self-sufficient and also to export agricultural products to other districts and beyond the state.

He urged all to work together to make Kakching the best district in the State and national level in implementing the scheme.

He said there are so many components in this program, like development of ponds, development of irrigation canals, etc.

No aspect of this scheme will be possible or successful without absolute dedication from the society, added the Deputy Commissioner.

As part of the programme, the DC administered a pledge on Watershed Yatra to all present.

A rally carrying the message of water conservation was also flagged off by the DC, starting from the DC Complex, Kakching, proceeding to Kakching Bazar and returning to the starting point.

Saplings and appreciation gifts were distributed to WC Secretaries of Project Villages, while renowned personalities in Watershed and Spring Shed Management were felicitated.

T-shirts were also given to all the participants of the event.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner in a public notice informed that the District Administration, Kakching is re-activating Meeyamgi Numit (People's Day) on Friday, February 7, to facilitate residents in accessing various Government schemes and services.

The event aims to provide on-the-spot resolution of grievances, with officials from various Government departments like Health, Education, Social Welfare, PWD, Municipal Council, and BDO officials, available to assist citizens.

The DC urged all residents of the district to take advantage of this opportunity for hassle-free access to Government services.

The event will be held from 11 am to 1 pm and all efforts will be made to address concerns on the same day.
