Imphal, January 01: Spelling out its poll strategies, MPP president Dr L Chandramani today said that the party has no intention of forging pre-poll alliance with any other political parties.

On the other hand, the MPP received a shot in its arm with the Khangabok Block Congress Committee president Laikangbam Bachu joining the MPP.

Bachu has been appointed as the general secretary of the MPP, said Chandramani.

Talking to newsmen at the office of the MPP today, Chandramani said that as a party committed to the principles of regionalism, the MPP has no intention of forging pre-poll alliances with any party.

Moreover the Political Affairs Committee of the MPP has also not discussed anything pertaining to teaming up with National parties, which nonetheless believe in regionalism.

The question of alliance will be addressed only after the election, he said.

Repeating that the Election Committee of the MPP will meet tomorrow at 3 pm to discuss the drawing up of the candidates list, Chandramani said that the candidate lists will be announced in phases in sync with the three phased polling announced by the Election Commission of India.

A definite decision is yet to be taken on how many candidates the MPP will field in the election, informed Dr Chandramani and added that the MPP will surely field candidates in the hill districts.

On the dissolution of the Federal Party of Manipur, Chandramani said that the party was dissolved on August 31 last year and there has been no report of any complaint being lodged with the ECI against the dissolution.

The MPP president also hailed the Khangabok Block Congress president for joining the MPP.

Bachu joined the MPP along with three hundred active members of the Congress and three thousand primary members of the Congress.

Significantly, Khangabok AC is the home turf of CM O Ibobi.

Welcoming Bachu into the party's fold, Chandramani said that he has been appointed the general secretary of the MPP.

Explaining why he quit the Congress, Bachu who was also present said that Chief Minister O Ibobi has betrayed the trust reposed in him by the people.

Levelling a series of charges, the new MPP general secretary said that Ibobi has neglected the lot of the poorer sections and is only pursuing his personal interest by masquerading as a Congress man.

The defeat of Ibobi in Khangabok is imminent, predicted Bachu and added that he may not receive the needed support from the Congress workers of Thoubal AC.
