Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, December 04 2024: Special Judge NIA Imphal West has sent two of five persons involved in an abduction case to judicial custody, and allowed the other three to be formally arrested in another case of extortion and loot.

The five involved in the abduction case have been identified as Wahengbam Ramananda alias Rousow, his wife Usharani Devi, Paonam Shamungou, Leichombam Bipin and Naoroibam Joyshankar.

They were arrested for abducting Kh Nabakeshore Singh of Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai.

The accused were produced before the Court after completion of their police custody period.

Kh Nabakeshore Singh of Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai was abducted in the morning of November 22 .

A complaint filed with Singjamei police stated that Nabakeshore was abducted by two unknown persons who came in a two-wheeler vehicle.

One of the abductors discharged a small gun in the bedroom in order to threaten Nabakeshore before abducting him in the family's Maruti Alto car which was parked outside the gate.

The next day the abductors demanded a ransom of Rs 3-5 crore.

Police investigation afterwards resulted in the arrest of Leichombam Bipin Singh (33), son of L Nipamacha of Leimaram Shanti Bazar Mamang Leikai.

Police recovered a .32 Pistol marked as USA along with one magazine and 5 rounds of bullets.

This further led to the arrests of Wahengbam Ramananda alias Rousow alias Luwangamba (50) son of late W Biren of Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai, and his wife Wahengbam ongbi Usharani alias Abem.

Police then raided the house of Rousow and arrested Naoroibam Joyshankar Singh alias Laiyumba (39), son of N Inaocha Singh of Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai.

Police seized one Pistol marked as 2503 (made in Italy), one magazine along with 5 live rounds of bullets from his possession.

He admitted to working under the command of Rousow.

After Rousow disclosed the location where Kh Nabakeshore was being held, police conducted a search operation at a farm house at Lamdeng.

While Nabakeshore was rescued, a suspect fled and evaded police arrest.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of the absconding suspect identified as Paonam Shamungou alias Pintu (40), son of P Mohendro Singh of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak.

Further raid at Rousow's residence at Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai resulted in the seizure of 8 soap cases containing suspected heroin, two Pistols, one revolver, two carbine magazines, one .22 Rifle, 4 detonators and several rounds of ammunition.

Police said Rousow is involved in a number of cases and he used to supply arms and ammunition to different unlawful organisations.

During interrogation, Rousow allegedly disclosed that he was given instruction by one self-styled Lt of Pambei-led UNLF Yengkhom Anandajit alias Anand alias Pallelngakpa alias Kenba alias James to meet one Moirangthem Dhanabir (43) son of M Tomba Singh of DM College Campus and cause him minor injuries.

Police claimed, on November 9, Rousow along with Joyshankar shot Moirangthem Dhanabir on his left arm by using his .22 Pistol.

Police said Rousow and his associates including one Kesho and Wilson are also involved in a number of extortion cases including the looting of Rs 31,500 and one piece of gold from the house of one Arambam Dinamani Singh of Soibam Leikai on November 14 .

In the Court of the Special Judge NIA Imphal West today, prosecutor sought judicial custody of Wahengbam Ramananda alias Rousow, his wife Usharani Devi, Paonam Shamungou, Leichombam Nipin and Naoroibam Joyshankar for smooth conduct of the investigation and to cause arrest of their associates.

In the meantime, Porompat Police filed a plea with the Court to formally arrest Wahengbam Ramananda alias Rousow, Naoroibam Joyshankar and Paonam Shamungou in connection with the November 14 case of loot at the residence of Arambam Dinamani Singh at Soibam Leikai.

The Court, after hearing submissions and the plea, allowed the Porompat police to formally arrest Rousow, Joyshankar and Shamungou, and sent the other two accused persons, Usharani and Leichombam Bipin to judicial custody.
