Senapati, July 04 2024:
Even after three and a half days of extensive search and rescue effort, the 17 year old youth who was carried away by strong currents in Senapati River on July 1 continues to remain untraceable.
Attempts to recover his body remained futile as local youths, Red Cross Society members, Willong Circle villagers, SDRF team and family members continued the search until this evening.
Family and village members of the victim have appealed to the public to help find the missing youth or provide information if found.
However, after the flood situation worsened in Imphal, the SDRF team who were roped in by Senapati District Administration were withdrawn from the mission for new assignments at Imphal.
Many youths voluntarily joined the search from Old Monday Market Bridge till Barak River and Senapati River meeting point at Karong.
Similarly other teams also conducted searches along the banks of the Barak River in Karong, Lairouching, Maram, Willong, Kangzang, Rajaimei and other locations.
Notably, the youth, Hailungba Martin, slipped and fell into the Senapati River close to a canal located near Old Monday Market Bailey Bridge connecting Maralong and Katomei.
Since then, all efforts to find him have gone in vain.
