Imphal, February 04 2019: In a landmark judgment which also happens to be one of the fastest ever trial of a murder case (only 20 days), A Noutuneshori Devi, Session Judge, Senapati, convicted four persons in connection with the abduction and murder case of one Pukrihongbam Memi Chanu, today, apart from acquitting one individual.

The Court also fixed tomorrow for the sentence hearing.

The judgment order was announced in an open Court after it was kept reserved following the final hearing of the session trial case on February 2.The trial began before the Court against the four convicted individuals identified as Yumkhhaibam Rohit alias Rajesh (29) s/o Y Rijauddin of Khergao Makha Leikai, Kshetrigao, Md Farish Shah (18) s/o (L) Faruk Shah of Kshetrigao Thambalkhong Makha Leikai, Rehana (50), d/o Abdullah of Khergao Makha Leikai, Kshetrigao, Farjina (23) d/o Habi of Khergao Makha Leikai, Kshetrigao, as well as the acquitted person, Leishangthem Nungchanba alias Ramesh (35) s/o Yaima of Leishangthem Awang Leikai, after a charge sheet was submitted by the IO of the case following the completion of the investigation, on January 15 and charges were framed the next day.

The trial began on January 17 and 28 prosecution witnesses were recorded during the trial.

The examination of the convicts and the acquitted individual was conducted on January 31 .

On February 2, the Court came to the conclusion that the victim died after she was hit, strangulated and had her mouth and nose muffled by Y Rohit and Md Farish Khan in the evening of August 14 last year evening, at Farish's room.

The Court also concluded that the same fact was confirmed by factum and were corroborated with the opinion given by the post mortem doctor.

The Court further mentioned that Md Farish also accepted a cash of Rs 7000 from Y Rohit for concealing the offence and they also cleaned up the blood stain on the floor for concealing evidences.

The Court then concluded that there is no doubt that convict Rehana intentionally got rid of evidence from the crime scene (her residence) by cleaning and washing the clothes as well as intentionally refraining from giving information regarding the offence.

Farjina also intentionally refrained from providing information of the offence even though she came back to her residence before the dead body was removed from her house, the Court decided.

Considering all the evidences, the Court convicted Y Rohit under section 302 (murder) and 201 IPC (for causing disappearance of evidence), Md Farish Khan under section 302 (murder), 201 IPC (for causing disappearance of evidence), 34 IPC (common Intention) and 213 IPC (taking gift to screen an offender from punishment) .

The Court also convicted Rehana under section 201 IPC (for causing disappearing of evidence) and Farjina under section 202 IPC (for intentional omission to give information of offence by person bound to inform).

However, the Court acquitted L Nungchanba alias Romesh from the case.

The Court then fixed tomorrow for the sentence hearing and announcement of the quantum of punishment.

It may be mentioned that the case began against the acquitted person after a complaint was lodged by the father of the victim before Saikul PS, in August last year, stating his daughter had been abducted by the said person.

Nungchanba alias Romesh was arrested on August 17 last year and while hectic efforts were on to find out the whereabouts of the victim, a dead body stuffed inside a gunny bag was found floating in Iril River at Arapti Khetukhong area on the same day and the body was later identified as that of Pukhrihongbam Memi Chanu.
