Manipur observes International Day for Persons with Disability

Imphal, December 03 2014 : Joining the rest of the world in observing the International Day for Persons with Disability, various government and non-government organisations in different districts of Manipur organized functions to mark the occasion.

Kangpokpi.

The Senapati Disable People Association, Manipur (SDPAM) and the All Disable Union Sadar Hills (ADUSH) organized a programme at Multi-Purpose Hall, Senapati today.

The programme was jointly organized by the SDPAM, ADUSH and MANEDA in collaboration with the SSA-RTE, Senapati under the theme 'Sustainable Development: The Promises of Technologies' .

The observation of the day of persons with differently abled brought many together giving an opportunity, to have a feeling oneness.

The function was graced by Dr.H Loli Mao, CMO, Senapati as Chief Guest while A..SRobinson, District Social Welfare Officer, Senapati and T.Peter Rangnamei, Secretary, MANEDA as the Function President.

The observation was also attended by Seikhomang Khongsai, President, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills and Daileru, President, SKAWWA where the duo also exhorted and greeted to motivate not to be disheartened being physically challenge.

The Gorkha Samaj and Gorkha student union, Senapati Zone, special teachers of the SSARET, Gospel Talent Training Centre Principle and his Team, Staff of MANEDA' Innocent smile school students and member of the SDPAM and ADUSH were present to observe the occasion.

On the occasion Dr..HLoli Mao CMO, Senapati shared his joy and happiness over the differently Abled congregation while sharing how a family and society reacts when a child is deformed or disable.

He continued that in such situation instead of words of encouragement friends and relative starts to find solution to get rid of them while condemning the stigma and discrimination melted out of it.

"A strong will and determination to challenge the disability is the only way to realize the potential and aptitude", asserted the CMO while urging to contribute a sustainable Development to those people.

"The will to overcome the disability converts a person to differently abled person" The CMO noted while highlighting the schemes and programmes of the Government through which a person can benefit.

The CMO also assured the disable Association of the district to commit his best but advise that certification requires proper medical examining by specialist.

In a speech by the Guest of honor A.S.Robison called for a live to be lived in the will of God, despite different deformities on normal person or disable person may possess while stressing the schemes and financial assistance that can be availed from the department of social welfare.

.TPeter Rangnamei who manages one of the most active and laudable project under MANEDA, boldly accused the Government Department stating "even after" years of the formation of SDPAM & ADUSH the government has miserably failed to attend the grievance/needs of those people with disability.

"The role of the social welfare department is negligible", alleged Peter while recalling the previous year observation under the theme "barriers free" he continued that after a year no major governmental building including the Mini Secretariat (DC-office complex) and District Hospital are not disable people friendly.

Lashing out on the fallacy of the census- 2011, which is supposed to be carried out in respective villages "the census were written in the hostels of Senapati, this is why the enrollment rate of disable people are not included properly" the Secretary of MANEDA further alleged.

The occasion was also a programme to show case the talents of the differently abled persons, with enchanting voice while aide and appliance were also distributed to the needy disable victims.

Chandel.

World Disable Day under SSA Chandel was observed with a function held at Mini Indoor stadium in Japhou Bazar today.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chandel K Luckyson, MCS, CNPO President Ws Kanral Anal and ZEO, DPO SSA Chandel F Lalzuithangi attended as Chief Guest, Guest of honour and Functional president of the function respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC Chandel K Luckyson calls for positive attitude of the people for showing love and affection to all physically challenged and disabled people in the society and said special consideration and reservation as per norm must be provided to them.

He assured that the district administration would tried ensuring all forms of social benefits to this group of people in this connection the ADC called upon all authorities concerned to extend cooperation in this regard.

District Coordinator, Integrated Education for Disable (IED), SSA Lanu Pinky Aimol led the hour of presentation during which children with Special Needs were honoured with a gift.

Lunch was also served to the children as part of the programme.

Tamenglong .

The Sarva Shiksha Abiyan (SSA) Tamenglong on Wednesday organised world disabled day at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong with SL.Tongkholen, Zonal Education Officer Tamenglong attending as chief guest.

Sayed Vakter, DPM (SSA) presided the function.

In the second session, Abuana, Ex- DPM, NRHM Tamenglong; S.Premananda Sharma (Special Teacher) SSA, Tamenglong and N.Dhana Mani (Consultant Prosthetic and Orthetic) spoke on the occasion as resource persons of the world disabled day at Tamenglong.

Song and drawing competition and talent shows were parts of the celebration of the world disabled day today.

Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, S.Premananda Sharma (Special Teacher) SSA, Tamenglong disclosed that the programme aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with Disabilities.

Further Premananda disclosed that the same will also held at, Nungba, Tamei, and Tousem Block under the theme "Sustainable Development: The promise of Technology" .

Churachandpur .

World Disability Day 2014 was observed at the Synod Hall, IB Road, Churachandpur today with support from Jan Vakas Samiti, CBM,UNDP, along with the District Social Welfare Office, Churachandpur.

A Umarani SSWO, Cololel Anil NF Commanding Officer, Khuga Battalion, and Maniram sharma IAS, ADC Churachandpur were present as chief host, functional president, and chief guest respectively.

According to the organiser, 861 people with disabilities were registered in social welfare office of the district and he also said that 187 participated in the function.

Jiribam.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was observed by Additional District Programme Office (ADPO), Jiribam and Achievement of Rising Maiden (ARM), Jiribam at Institute for Children with Disabilities, Jiribam today.

The observance was attended by Councillor of Jiribam Municipal Council Ward No.9 H Bina as Chief Guest and President of Parents' Association of ICD S Jadhop Meitei as President, while AI of School Lalmani Meitei and President of Meitei National Front, Jiribam H Dhoni attended as Guests of Honour.

Aids and appliances were also distributed to the disabled children during the occasion.
