Imphal, September 03 2024:
Denouncing the deplorable condition of a section of the Asian Highway-1 at Singjamei, locals have threatened to impose an indefinite bandh from September 6 .
At the office of the Social Development Organisation at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, its advisor, Ksh Ibotombi said the section of the Asian Highway-1 (Imphal-Moreh) is broken and filled with potholes that have caused motor vehicle accidents.
The pathetic condition of the section of road has inconvenienced the public and all commuters.
Moreover, the road and general area of Singjamei are often flooded during rains, he said.
Ibotombi said the locals have approached several authorities and submitted memoranda but, no actions have been taken up to repair the damaged road, he added.
The locals don't want to go against the Government and block the road, but the lackadaisical attitude of the Government has forced them to take a decision to impose blockade on the Highway, Ibotombi said.
The locals are appealing to the Government to take up action and repair the road before September 6 .
If no action is taken before within the given time, the locals will impose an indefinite bandh from September 6, he said.
Meira Paibis and members of local clubs were present in the press meet.
