Imphal, August 03 2026: Guru Okram Baruni Singh, passed away on Monday at 11 am at his residence in Khewa Phurju (Pukhao) .

He was 94 .

A leading exponent of Wari Leeba, the traditional Manipuri narrative art form, he served as a senior guru of the All Manipur Waree Leeba Association & Research Centre, Khurai Soibam Leikai.

He was honoured with the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award in 2007 .

A senior grade artist of AIR Imphal and DDK Imphal, he contributed immensely to preserving and promoting oral traditions.

Various organisations had earlier conferred awards and titles on him for his service to art and culture.

The All Manipur Wari Leeba Association & Research Centre expressed deep grief, observing a two-minute silence in memory of the departed guru.
