Special awareness campaign on 'Women Centric Legislations Week' held

A special awareness campaign as a part of 'Women Centric Legislations Week' was conducted at DRD A Conference hall, Mini Secretariat Hamleikhong Ukhrul on August 2 .
The awareness programme was organised by the District Administration of Ukhrul in collaboration with Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and One Stop Centre (OSC) as a part of 100 Days Special Awareness Campaign under SANKALP: HEW Speaking as the resource person, Judicial Magistrate PA Phungreisung deliberated on women's rights and women empowerment.
Dwelling on the rights of women, Phungreisung stated that women empowerment is to give equal platforms to women in all fields for their sustainability and progress.
He informed that 'The Indian Government has passed 33 legislation acts that are confined only for women protection' .
He maintained that the National Commission for Women represents the rights of women and it ensures that the issues and concerns of women are addressed.
Meanwhile Chingri Vashum Legal Researcher highlighted the women centric policies and programme of the Government focusing on the Equal Remuneration Act of 1975, The Maternity Benefit Act of 1961 and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act of 2013.She also briefed on the Women Helpline (WHL) Scheme, which provides emergency and non-emer-gency assistance to women affected by violence.
She also talked about Government welfare schemes such as the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP), and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) focusing on women empowerment and development of the society.
Over 150 women including Anganwadi Workers, Helpers, college students, leaders of Tangkhul women organisations and women police personnel took part in today's programme.
