UAL, UNAL flag delays in developmental projects

Imphal, April 03 2026: Residents of Uripok are up in arms over stalled developmental projects, with local bodies Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) holding a joint press meet today to demand swift action from authorities.

The organisations, representing community interests in the area, accused executing agencies of prolonged delays in rigid concrete road construction and drainage works.

Addressing the media at Imphal Public Library in Uripok Sorbon Thingel, UAL general secretary Samom Dhurba slammed the delays, saying, "We have cooperated fully, but the road project remains incomplete, and the drainage work initiated months ago is far from complete, causing major inconvenience to the public".

Frustration has mounted among residents due to incomplete roads leading to traffic snarls and safety hazards, alongside shoddy drainage that exacerbates waterlogging during rains.

He highlighted the particularly dire state of the Langol-Shija road, noting that despite repeated appeals to the Public Works Department (PWD) and Keystone Pvt Ltd, no progress has been made.

Flooding from the Nambul River emerged as another flashpoint.

Without a proper retaining wall on the Uripok side, the area faces recurring threats to lives and property, especially during monsoons.

"These delays and oversights are unacceptable", Dhurba emphasized, pointing to widespread public discontent.

In light of these pressing concerns, UAL and UNAL have urged Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand to intervene personally, ensuring timely completion of all developmental works.

The press meet underscored ongoing challenges in Manipur's infrastructure push amid ethnic tensions and resource constraints, with Uripok residents hoping for resolution before the rainy season intensifies risks.
