The Manipur Amateur Muay Thai Association (MAMTA) has released its annual calendar for the year 2026 at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
The calendar release function was accompanied by a reception ceremony for National awardee, officials and players of Muay Thai.
The function was graced by dignitaries, including Thangjam Arunkumar, ML A, Wangkhei Assembly Constituency; Dr TM Rajem Ayangba, president, MAMTA; Dr Kshetrimayum Kala, former president, MAMTA; Konsam Rajendra, chief administrator, All Manipur Dalit Development Association; Th Shakhi, vice president, MAMTA; and Mutum Chuaramani Meitei, president, Imphal East District Amateur Muay Thai Association (IEDAMTA).
Speaking on the occasion, Thangjam Arunkumar emphasized the importance of promoting sports and supporting local sportspersons and artists, recognizing their role in community development and cultural expression.
"Sports should be given the same importance as education and culture", said the MLA while highlighting that sports instill discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, which are values essential for leadership.
The MLA also encouraged sport associations to play a crucial role in improving the well-being of athletes and coaches by proactively connecting them with the numerous existing Government schemes designed to provide financial, educational, and infrastructural support.
Moreover, a book titled "Pukei Langei Laktagi Saknairaba Saknairabisinggi Wari" written by Heikham Jadumani was released today in a function held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
The function was graced by Lourembam Rameshwar, MLA, Keirao AC; Prof Paonam Gunindro, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture; and Asem Khakta, president.
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) as presidium members.
