Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam awarded Visharad Degree in classical music

Imphal, June 02 2025: Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, Director of Medical Services, Shija Hospitals, has been awarded a Vishard Degree in classical music by the Bhatkande Sangit Vidyapith, Lucknow, making him the first allopathic doctor from Manipur to receive this esteemed honor.

As per a release issued by Shija Hospitals & Research Institute Pvt Ltd (SHRI), the milestone highlights Dr Jugindra's exceptional blend of medical expertise and artistic accomplishment.

Dr Jugindra trained under Dr Bachaspatimayum Bidyapati Sharma, faculty of Manipur University and son of the late B Jayantakumar Sharma, a renowned Manipuri writer, lyricist, and composer of the State anthem, "Sana Leibak Manipur" .

Dr Jugindra diligently attended the morning classes of this 5 years degree course and cleared all the exams.

Dr Jugindra's musical achievement complements his distinguished medical career.

As the founding director of SHRI, Dr Jugindra pioneered laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery in Manipur and India.

His contributions have established SHRI as a leading healthcare institution.

He served as the national president of the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) from the year 2020 to 2022 .

He also led the Indian Medical Association (IMA) as president from the year 2022 to 2024 .

Currently, he is serving as the president of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Manipur State Chapter, and as national director of the AMASI Safe Laparoscopic Programme.
