Imphal, June 01: The Zeliangrong Students' Union, Temenglong district and Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamei area have conveyed deep concern over the bridge construction work along New Katang to Dikiuram road which connects Manipur with Nagaland.

During a visit to the work site by a team of ZSU volunteers yesterday, it was found that unskilled labourers were being engaged for the bridge construction work without any guidance from engineers, conveyed a ZSU release.

The foundation for the pillars of the bridge was also found on the sandy soil, not reaching up to the stable soil.

Moreover, one pillar was found leaning towards Barak river.

Taking strong exception to the alleged lack of quality in the bridge construction work and failure on the part of the Works Department to monitor the construction work, the student body has sought attention of the Works Minister as well as the local MLA to look into the matter and to take up corrective measures.
