Thoubal, February 01 2025:
The student unions of Waikhom Mani Girls' College and Thoubal College have urged the State Government to clarify if any higher education institutes will offer the 4th year (7th & 8th semester) for UG programmes as per NEP 2020 at the earliest.
The press statements issued by the student bodies of the two colleges asserted that students are in a state of confusion as they have been left in a limbo without any information of whether any educational institutions in the State will offer the 7th and 8th semesters of the 4-year undergraduate programme under NEP 2020 .
If no such provisions will be provided, students who are due to complete the 3rd year of their UG courses in June-July need to prepare for CUET if they wish to pursue MA/MSc/ MCom or other courses.
As such, the two student unions have urged the State Government to shed light on the matter and clarify if the 7th and 8th semester courses will be offered at any colleges/ universities.
If so, they have demanded further information concerning the number of seats, subjects offered etc.
It may be noted that as per NEP 2020, students who have undergone the four-year UG programme need not study for two years masters courses.
