Meira Paibi leader gets bail

Imphal, November 30 2024:
Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has ordered the release of Meira Paibi leader Thingbaijam Sushila on bail, and rejected a request by Lamphel police to formally arrest her.
The police were seeking to arrest her in connection with incidents of vandalising and burning down of properties of MLAs on November 16 .
Thingbaijam Sushila (46), wife of (L) Romeo of Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal was produced before the Court after the completion of police custody period.
While the police filed an application to remand her to judicial custody, her defence counsel, M Johny filed a remand objection along with a prayer for her release on bail.
The Court, after hearing the submissions of the prosecuted and the defence counsel, ordered her release on bail.
Even as she was given bail, Lamphel police filed an application for arresting her in connection with her alleged involvement in vandalizing and burning down of properties at residences of elected members on November 16 .
The Court rejected the application, however directed Thingbaijam Sushila to cooperate with the investigating officer.
