Thakhaisida Manipuri Theatre inaugurated as part of Seva Sankalp Utsav

Culture is the face of Manipur to the world and its preservation and promotion are a must for the well-being and development of the Manipuri society, said Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh today.
The Minister was speaking at the inauguration of Thakhaisida Manipuri Theatre (Fortnightly Theatre Shows), organised by the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, as part of the Seva Sankalp Utsav 2026 at the Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium, Palace Compound, Imphal East.
Keithellakpam Dinamani Singh, Director of Art and Culture, renowned filmmaker Aribam Shyam Sharma and Mongjam Joy, chairman of the Committee of Thakhaisida Manipuri Theatre and many artists attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Khuraijam Loken Singh stated that Manipur's culture is widely recognised across the world, and acknowledged the contributions of the artists towards promoting the State's culture.
He said artists have devoted their lives to taking the art and culture of Manipur to greater heights.
He also spoke about difficulties facing the artists, and said no organisation or group should hinder or threaten them or their activities.
Padma Shri Sabitri Heisnam, an eminent theatre personality, recalled her days in the theatre and spoke about the difficulties she faced.
Theatre is an integral part of Manipur's culture, she said, urging the Department of Art and Culture to extend greater support to artists.
She also urged the department to repair, renovate and improve theatre halls across the State, including Langmeidong Dramatic Union, Chorus, Rupmahal and Kalakshetra, so that artists can continue to promote theatre art and culture.
The programme featured "Narasingh (Awa Ngamba)" a play presented by the People's Arts and Dramatic Association, Imphal East.
