Forest Department bans camping, trekking in Punshilok, Langol RF

The Forest Department, Government of Manipur, has issued an order prohibiting all forms of camping, trekking and expedition activities in the Langol Reserve Forest in general and Punshilok area in particular, with immediate effect.
The order, issued by the Divisional Forest Office, Central Forest Division, on July 29, comes in response to rising incidents of illegal trespassing in the form of camping, expeditions in the Langol Reserve Forest in general and Punshilok area in particular, disturbing the ecological balance, endangering wildlife and violating the provisions of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 & relevant Rules.
The Department cited Section 26 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927, which prohibits trespassing in Reserved Forest areas without permission from competent authorities: The Department also instructed the Range Officers and staff to conduct patrolling on a regular basis and keep strict vigil against such acts of illegal trespass and take appropriate action according to Indian Forest Act, 1927 and Manipur Forest Rules, 2021 .
The Department further cautioned any offenders) caught trespassing in the aforementioned Reserved Forests may face imprisonment of up to six months or with fine or both under the provisions of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 .
