Amid the devastating situation in Manipur brought by Cyclone Remal, theNational Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Imphal has stepped up efforts to restore road connectivity and rescue people stranded in flood-ravaged Manipur.
According to a release issued by NHIDCL Imphal, the company has stood firmly with the people of Manipur in the hour of trouble and ensured that vehicular movement along the National Highways is not disrupted.
NHIDCL has also intensified rescue operations by forming teams for different areas so that people face minimum trouble due to landslides and blockage of roads which are common phenomena in the rainy season.
All the teams under the supervision of the GMs and engineers of NHIDCL are working day & night, and performing their duties with responsibility and honesty.
NHIDCL also took immediate steps to restore vehicular movement along NH-37 after the Irang bailey bridge snapped on May 28, 2024, amid incessant rainfall that caused widespread flood across the State.
The vehicles, including petroleum tankers are now using an RCC bridge over Irang river.
Before it was opened to the vehicles on May 29, 2024, the construction of the bridge was almost completed with all that was required was the approach road.
The NHIDCL made the bridge operational within 10 hours of the collapse of the bailey bridge with the assistance of the local administration and villagers of the area.
Besides, NHIDCL is also taking necessary actions to-restore vehicular movement-along the Imphal-Jessami Road via Ukhrul which has been disrupted by breach of carriageway and landslides at several locations.
The NHIDCL has assured to continue its extensive efforts to address the considerable disruptions caused by the massive flood and live up to the expectation of the State Government and the public.
