Imphal, March 31 2022:
CAF&PD Commissioner Bobby Waikhom has appealed shops and vendors not to hike prices of commodities taking advantage of the blockade and the upcoming festival of "Cheiraoba" .
He made the remark while speaking to the media at a press conference held at his office chamber at Secretariat North Block and added that supply of essential commodities in the State was severely hit by the blockade called by SAPO along Imphal-Dimapur highway.
The department had received reports of some shops selling commodities above the price fixed by the Government citing the blockade as an excuse, he added.
He appealed the people to inform the department if they find any shop selling items at a higher price.
The Commissioner also informed the media that the previous day the Director of the department and a team had conducted surprise inspections at markets in the Imphal area and seized products which were being sold without MRP (Maximum Retail Price) tags.
Promising appropriate actions against such shops, the Commissioner added that a meeting of the price monitoring committee is scheduled to be held tomorrow (April 1).As the blockade has ended, the department hopes that there will be no rise in price of essential commodities, but will no for certain after the meeting, he added.
