Ta-Khousarol, theatre workshops conclude

Imphal, August 30 2026: A month-long workshop cum production on Ta-Khousarol, a component of Thang Ta, organised by Goodwill Foundation for Culture, Bamonkampu under the CMAT Scheme of Manipur Government, concluded today.

The valedictory function was held at the auditorium of Huyen Lalong Manipur Thang Ta Cultural Association, Irilbung.

Artists who participated in the workshop presented production of Ta-Khousarol along with demonstrations of Thang-Ta Chainaba, Leiteng Haiba and Das Avatar.

Certificates were also distributed to artists.

Speaking on occasion, K Sanathoiba Sharma, Director of Huyen Lalong Manipur Thang Ta Cultural Association, said Thang Ta is an art form inseparable from birth to death and not just a martial art.

He said Ta-Khousarol has no parallel in the world and has many components, and organising workshop and production is a good step to preserve the art form which had protected Manipur's sovereignty and Meitei identity.

In another programme, a 10-day Theatre Workshop jointly organised by Roopalaya Theatre, Elangkhanpokpi and Directorate of Art and Culture, Manipur Government concluded today at LEGCO complex, Elangkhanpokpi.

The valedictory function was attended by Hiyanglam AC MLA Dr Radheshyam Yumnam, Joint Director of Art & Culture Mrinashree Mairembam, Waikhong ZP Member Chongtham Indrajit Singh, Waikhong GP Chairperson Wangkhem Brojen Singh and Roopalaya Theatre Chairman Elangbam Shanta as presidium members.

Altogether 57 trainees participated.

Five resource persons were felicitated with certificates, lengyan and mementoes.

Participant certificates were distributed and trainees presented cultural items including dance, songs and Thang Ta .
