The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) has demanded a special compensation package reflecting the enormity of the calamity which had befallen the people due to rampant flooding in several districts of the State.
In a release, CPI/MSC said that the widespread flood triggered by incessant rainfall in the last couple of days has taken a heavy toll of human life and property in the State.
Expressing solidarity with the victims of the massive flood and those who are helping them in their struggle, CPI/MSC stated that the ongoing spell of heavy rains has hit normal life, with scores of houses suffering damage, roads being submerged, trees uprooted and flood water entering houses.
The party continued that water overflowing from Nambul and Imphal Rivers have flooded a number of localities in Imphal city causing serious inconveniences to the people.
"The ground floor of the party's State Office in Irawat Bhavan, Roopmahal Tank has also been flooded", it added.
CPI/MSC further urged the Government to take immediate steps to relocate the flood victims to safer places and provide a special package necessary for putting life back on rails in the State.
