TAKL lays down ultimatum

Imphal, September 29 2026: As the Centre and the State Government have allegedly failed to protect the indigenous communities from the onslaught of immigrants, the Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL) has resolved to seek support from different quarters to protect them.

Addressing the media at the Manipur Press Club today, TAKL president Yarchuiso Kashung said that the crisis in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023, continues unabated.

Saying that Kuki armed groups which signed the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact with the Centre and the State Government have killed several Naga civilians in recent months, he added that these groups have attacked several villages in Ukhrul, Kam- jong, Tengnoupal, Noney, Tamenglong and Senapati districts, apart from the valley districts.

Moreover, KNA-(B), which is based in Myan-mar, has attacked border villages in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts on different occasions, he said.

Asking whether the Government of India would remain silent if similar attacks were carried out by either Pakistan or Bangladesh on Indian soil, he said people living in the border villages of Manipur are deeply hurt by the Government's response to the cross-border attacks.

He said they had decided to seek support from neighbouring countries to protect the indigenous people, as the Centre and the State Government had allegedly failed to do so.

Yarchuiso Kashung said that the SoO agreement does not contain any provision allowing Kuki groups to move around heavily armed, extort money or kill civilians.

He questioned whether it is not the responsibility of the Government to monitor such activities and ensure the safety and security of civilians.

He said that instead of taking concrete steps to resolve the crisis, the Government has been repeatedly calling for peace.

Both the Meiteis and Nagas want peace so the Government must understand who is responsible for allowing the crisis to persist, he said.
