Govind Vidyarthi, who was closely involved in the propagation and promotion of various performing Manipuri art forms and who also served as the Secretary of the JNMDA in the early 80s passed away this afternoon at his Mumbai residence after a prolonged illness.
Born on May 15, 1912 at Dharmadam, Kerala, Govind joined the Communist movement and was a full time party member till 1974.Later after leaving politics he started working in the realm of art and culture and joined the Sangeet Natak Academy.
He studied at Kashi Vidya Peeth, Benares.
Govind visited Manipur many times and was also the Director of Kathak Kendra, one of the other institutes along with JNMDA run directly by the Sangeet Natak Academy.
He is survived by his wife and son, actor Ashish Vidyarthi.
