Call for disturbance free education zone rings loud

The call to make educational institutions a disturbance free zone grew louder with wide-scale protest demonstrations held in different parts of the State today.
Under the aegis of the Co-Ordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone Demand, the students and teachers of several educational institutions of Kakching staged sit-in appeal across the district today.
It may be noted that the sit-in appeal campaign was launched on July 25 under the aegis of the committee in view of the rising cases of extortion in schools and colleges by various organizations amid the prevailing unrest in the State.
The core demands of the campaign are to stop imposition of unbearable monetary demands on educational institutions by various organizations including armed groups; stop politicising education; to frame a special policy for conduct of classes not less than 220 days in a year; stop favouritism and make education sector corruption free and let the students study peacefully without any hindrance thereby making education a disturbance free zone.
In Kakching District Headquarters, students and teachers of MMS Genius Academy, JRD Pathseekers Academy, PR English School, Martin Grammar School, Grace Cottage Academy, Victory High School, Amutombi Divine Life English School, Wabagai staged sit-in appeal in front of their respective schools.
Thoubal
Voicing the demand to make the education sector a disturbance free zone, protest demonstrations were held widely in Thoubal district.
In line with the mass campaign held in the State, a sit-in protest was held at Thoubal College today by the students and teaching staff of the college.
Participating in the protest, N Thoithoiba, secretary general of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) Head Office and member of Co-Ordinating Committee on Disturbance free Educational Zone Demand urged all concerned to refrain from all sorts of activities which may hamper the education sector.
Expressing discontentment over the frequent disturbances posed by various factors in the education sector, he appealed to all concerned to stop such activities which are against the students so as to save the future of the future pillars of the society.
Similar protests were held at Vision Creative School, Fancier Higher Secondary School, New Era Higher Secondary School, Waikhom Mani Girls College, Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, KM Blooming School Khangabok, Ananda Puma School, RUDA Academy, Royal Academy, Grace Academy, Chingdongpok High School, Kanga Senbi Upper Primary School, Sekmai Kumbi High School, Lamding Higher Secondary School and YK College Wangjing.
Advocating the demands of the Co-Ordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone Demand, 215 teachers under Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Thoubal , Zone III staged a sit-in protest at Thoubal Athokpam Keithel.
Meanwhile, the students and teachers of Memorial Model Academy, Yairipok carried out a protest rally at the surrounding areas of Yairipok Keithel today.
Extending solidarity to the campaign, students and teaching staff of EGF School, Thoubal Ningombam formed a human chain in front of the school gate.
Chanting slogans to make education a disturbance free zone and using placards with similar demands were the common features throughout the protests held in both the districts today.
