Imphal, May 27 2026: The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (CJFD) is organising a public convention on NRC updation before census at Manipur University on May 29 .

Speaking to media persons at the office of CCSK at Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai, CJFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba asserted that only the updation of NRC can bring peace and stability in the State.

Saying that CJFD has no objection to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Jeetendra appealed to the authorities concerned to carry out SIR meticulously.

But there is a big question on how and where the thousands of displaced people will cast their votes, he said.

If elections are held without enabling displaced people to cast their votes at their localities, people from Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Moreh and Imphal will not be able to cast their votes at their respective localities.

This will project an image that the communities have been separated, the CJFD convenor said.

Even as the people of Manipur and CJFD have been asking the Government to defer the census exercise until NRC is updated, the State Government has decided to start house listing work from August 17.Taking strong exception to this decision of the State Government, CJFD submitted a memorandum to the President of India on May 19 .

Copies of the same memorandum have also been submitted to the Prime Minister's Office, Union Home Minister, Registrar General of India and the Census Commissioner of India, he said.

He also appealed to representatives of CSOs, community leaders, academicians and all stakeholders to take part in the public convention on NRC updation before census scheduled for May 29 .
