International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking observed

As celebrated across the globe, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking or World Drug Day was observed at Dr Kamal Hall, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS Hospital today.
The ceremony was conducted under the theme "The evidence is clear: Invest in prevention" .
Notable dignitaries in attendance included Dr Nepram Sanjib, Medical Superintendent, RIMS; Dr S Gojendra, Head, Department of Psychiatry; Dr Ng Sameeta, Head, Department of Clinical Psychology and Dr Brogen Akoijam, Dean, Academic (RIMS) .
Addressing the gathering, Dr Sanjib highlighted the contributions made by the Department of Psychology and Clinical Psychology, RIMS, Imphal in providing treatment for the drug addicted patients.

"RIMS has its own Drug Treatment Clinic (DTC) and Regional Resource Coordinating Centre (RRCC)", said Dr Sanjib while adding that the hospital has treated and rehabilitated over 21,000 drug users.
He mentioned that everyday more than 100 people are getting treatment for drug addiction through Methanol Replacement Therapy.
Dr Sanjib also elaborated on the role of family members and society at large in reintegrating a drug user to normal life.
RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS, Imphal; Sairem Sarat Singh, CAO/FA, RIMS, Imphal; Heads of Departments, faculties, students and staff of RIMS, Imphal also participated in the event.
