DDK Imphal bags two DD National Awards

Imphal Doordarshan Kendra bagged two Doordarshan Awards this year in the catagories of music and agriculture respectively.
The programmes entitledJourney produced by Manibabu Likmabam and Thoudam Brajabidhu was adjudged the best programme in the music category and Farmers' Pride produced by Manibabu Likmabam and Assurance Raikhan was adjudged the best programme in the agriculture Category.
In the 10th Doordarshan National Awards ceremony held at Siri Fort Auditorium, August Kranti Marg here on Wednesday, Manibabu Likmabam, Thoudam Brajabidhu and Assurance Raikhan of Imphal Doordarshan received the awards carrying trophy, a Citation and Cash prize of Rs.25,000/from the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni and the Chairperson of Prasar Bharti Mrinal Pandey.
Songam Vashum from Manipur working in DD News, Delhi and one Sakal Bhatt jointly received the best anchor award.
In her speech, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni said that the Doordarshan and DD News were still popular among the masses despite the advent of a plethora of other channels.
She credited the entire team of Doordarshan for the success.
Ambika Soni along with Prasar Bharati chairperson Mrinal Pandey gave awards in about 32 categories.
While the Best Doordarshan Kendra award went to Hyderabad, the best telefilm award went to Eti Shaponave Pam Khedi of Guwahati Kendra.
Till date, Imphal Doordarshan Kendra bagged eight DD National awards.
Awardees of Imphal Doordarshan Kendra stated that there were acute shortage of equipments in DDK, Imphal.
There was no sufficient cameras, camera batteries, cassettes and proper lighting system in the Kendra.
Law and order was also another problem in the production of programmes of the Kendra.
Inspite of all these odds DDK, Imphal had been winning the prestigious national awards continuously.
This was not the achievement of the staff concern and the Kendra only but also also a proud achievement of Manipur.
People of Manipur and the State Government needed to support DDK,Imphal in the public interest, they added.
The ceremony was opened with blowing conch by 10 conch artistes of a Manipuri cultural group based in Delhi.
They blowed the conch to make an unpleasant sound, just like a donkey brays, distorting the beautiful tune of Manipuri Moibung.
The Manipuri Gopis who were the attendants in the award distribution wore white potloi dress.
The aims and objectives of the Doordarshan Awards is to select and promote in-house, commissioned and sponsored programmes of thematic, aesthetic and technical excellence, through telecasting these programmes on television and to encourage the in-house talent from amongst Doordarshan's regular staff and outside producers.
Doordarshan Awards are given to programmes produced by regular employees of Doordarshan Kendras across the country; the Employees of Doordarshan working in any capacity other than producing programmes allied services of Doordarshan and; the Commissioned and Sponsored programmes telecast on Doordarshan's network produced by outside producers.
Doordarshan Awards are given annually for the best programmes telecast during each calendar year for the programmes telecast during the previous year.
