KBMC observes 135th Battle of Khongjom Commemoration Day

Khongjom Battle Memorial Committee (KBMC) observed the 135th "Battle of Khongjom Commemoration Day" at Tengol Lampak near Khongjom Keithel today.
KBMC has consistently commemorated the day since 1994 to honour the martyrs and unsung heroes of the Anglo Manipuri War (1891) who faced off with the Tamu Column of the mighty British Forces at the last battlefield in what has come to be known as the Battle of Khongjom.
The solemn ceremony was attended by Chartered Accountant Chongtham Sanjoy; Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup president and National Awardee Thingnam Ibethoi; former Principal of Standard College Dr L Basanti Devi; Chirap Loishang, GTB Angom Ningthou (IC) Senjam Surjit and former Head of Physiology Department at RIMS and JNIMS Hospital Dr Maisnam Mahendra as the presidium members.
As a part of the event, the gathering offered "Tarpon" at Khongjom River and paid their respects to the deceased forefathers.
Additionally, floral tributes were offered before the statue of Major Chongtham Mia and the brave unsung Manipuri warriors at Tengol Lampak.
A 2-minute silence was further observed to honour the courageous Manipuri freedom fighters.
Speaking on the occasion, Ching Tam Luwang, secretary, KBMC, educated the gathering explaining why the commemoration of the Battle of Khongjom has been organised on April 25 .
Meanwhile, chief guest CA Chongtham Sanjoy said the brave Manipuri forefathers recognised their duty to the motherland and bravely faced the British soldiers, sacrificing their lives without any fear at the last battlefield of the Anglo-Manipuri War 1891.On top of singing their praises, there is a great need to show that the current generation has imbibed the brave ancestors' dedication to Manipur and help guide future generations on the right path, said CA Chongtham Sanjoy.
